Villa and Lange now closely tracking another Premier League star for Gerrard in cut-price move

Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette ahead of the summer transfer window.

Villa were productive during the January window, bringing in four first-team players for Steven Gerrard. Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Digne, Robin Olsen and Calum Chambers all made the move to the Midlands, with Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez also linked with a surprise move.

Gerrard didn’t add to his senior attacking ranks, though, leaving him with just Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings, but it seems as if Johan Lange and co now have their eye on Lacazette.

According to Sporx, Villa and Ligue 1 club Lyon are closely interested in Lacazette, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt.

The 30-year-old has also been linked with Besiktas and is out of contract at the Emirates Stadium at the end of the current campaign.

Villa are set to go back in for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma in the summer, and it seems as if Lacazette is another Premier League target for the club over the coming months. Should the latter’s situation remain the same, Villa could end up signing the striker for nothing to bolster the club’s centre-forward ranks.

However, with Watkins and Ings already on the books and youngster Cameron Archer enjoying a fine 2021/22 season, Villa may be better off dodging a deal for the Frenchman. Indeed, Lacazette is on £182,000-a-week – that’s £82,000-a-week more than Villa’s top earner – and he has scored just five times in 22 appearances this season.
