Victoria Azarenka slammed as ‘disrespectful’ after quitting Miami Open match

Victoria Azarenka did not complete her latest match at the Miami Open after she walked off the court halfway through the second set.

The Belarusian was drawn against 16-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova of the Czech Republic, who is currently having the tournament of her life.

Azarenka was the latest player to feel the heat of the teenager’s run of form, and frustrations clearly got the better of her in Miami Gardens.

The two met in the Round of 32, after Fruhvirtova stunned former world number one Elise Mertens in a thrilling three-set match in the previous stage.

After winning the opening set 7-5, Mertens bounced back to win the second 6-2, forcing a tiebreaker. However, the deciding set went to the young Czech, who dominated 6-1 to take the win.

Fruhvirtova carried her impressive performance into her match against Azarenka, where she got off to a fast-paced start and piled the pressure onto her opponent.

After reeling off three consecutive games in the first set for a 6-3 win, the 16-year-old won three more before the two players took a break to change ends.

At 3-0 down, a frustrated Azarenka could be heard asking her coach “why am I here?” before ultimately deciding she was done for the day.

The two-time Grand Slam winner informed the umpire she didn’t want to continue and despite being asked to wait for her trainer, she walked off the court after shaking the official’s hand.

The umpire called after her to wait but Azarenka had already made a beeline for the exit and the match was ruled in favour of Fruhvirtova 6-3, 3-0.

Many have slammed the Belarusian for not completing the match and former world number five Daniela Hantuchova described her outburst as “disrespectful” to Fruhvirtova.

 “The most disrespectful thing
