Vettel blasts negative comments directed at Aston Martin's updated F1 car: 'It's just not fair'

Sebastian Vettel says he takes issue with remarks being made about the similarity between Red Bull's RB18 and the upgraded Aston Martin AMR22.

Aston Martin unveiled their upgraded 2022 challenger at the Spanish Grand Prix, but it didn't take long for people to start commenting on the similarity between the AMR22 and the RB18, with Red Bull ultimately taking issue with the similarity after revealing it had been brought to their attention by the FIA.

Aston Martin has denied any wrongdoing, insisting the upgrades were in the pipeline before the RB18 hit the track, and pointing to the fact that the FIA gave them the all-clear.

Starting an investigation

But Red Bull isn't convinced and has begun an internal investigation into how some of their ideas may have been illegally brought over to Aston Martin, particularly in the light of several Red Bull staff making a move to Aston Martin in 2022.

Vettel isn't impressed with the talk coming out of his former team Red Bull, however, or their treatment of Dan Fallows, the Red Bull aerodynamics chief who joined Aston Martin as technical director in April.

The German told Motorsport.com: "I think it was just at some point not fair. Especially towards, first of all, all the effort that went in [to change the AMR22]. Second, on a personal level, to Dan Fallows. I don't think it was fair. Some things that were said I think were not right.

"He's a very good guy. I remember him from my time at Red Bull, and obviously, he's joined the team and is with us now. Some of the things that were said were just not right, and I would like to hear... not an apology, just... well, they will never hear anything. But what I mean is, some of the things that have been said were just not fair."
