Veterans’ invitational golf tourney to champion inclusivity, charity

This year’s Ikoyi Club 1938 Veteran’s Invitational Kitty, which celebrates camaraderie, skill, and the enduring values of golf, among its veterans, will champion inclusivity and charity, the organisers have said.

The Veteran’s Invitational, scheduled to hold on April 4, according to the organisers, will showcase skills and sportsmanship, attracting golf enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds.
Speaking during the media unveiling of the programme, the Golf Section’s Captain, Tade Adekunle, said Ikoyi Club is committed to fostering an inclusive environment for all golf players andenthusiasts.

“At Ikoyi Club Golf Section, we believe that golf should be accessible to all, regardless of age. Our Veterans’ Invitational is a testament to our dedication to inclusivity, welcoming seasoned golfers and members to come together in the spirit of friendly competition, while leading a healthier lifestyle.”

Highlighting the club’s key activities for the year, Adekunle added, “We have a diverse calendar of events planned – we have introduced a year-round junior golf programme for children between ages 6and 16 years, which includes the Children’s Kitty Day. We also have a tournament and a scholarship programme planned for our caddies.

“Throughout the year, we will have championships and other initiatives within the golfing community.”

These activities aim to enhance the golfing experience for our members and strengthen the sense of communitywithin our club.”

Chairperson of the Committee, Mrs. Abah Oputa, echoed Adekunle’s sentiments, emphasising the club’s dual focus on charity and sports development.
