Veteran Steyn leads Bulls in Currie Cup derby against WP

Veteran flyhalf Morne Steyn will captain the Bulls in their Currie Cup clash against Western Province in Pretoria on Wednesday night.

The Bulls line-up is a nice mixture of experience and youth.

Hooker Bismarck du Plessis starts at hooker and is also the vice-captain, with Simphiwe Matanzima at loosehead prop and Robert Hunt on the tighthead side.

"This is another big week of rugby for the Bulls against a strong union. It was important that we have a competitive team to face a dangerous Western Province side," Bulls head coach Gert Smal said.

"We are privileged to have players of Morne Steyn and Bismarck du Plessis' calibre to provide leadership to a group of youthful, exciting players such as James Verity-Amm and Rynhardt Ludwig, among others.

"We expect Western Province to come hard at us. They will want to get back to winning ways. We know what they are capable of as a unit, and we will need to be at our best if we want to continue putting pressure on teams at the top of the table like the Cheetahs."

The Bulls are second in the Currie Cup standings with five wins from six matches, while WP are sixth with a solitary win.

Wednesday's match at Loftus Versfeld kicks off at 20:00.
