'Very ambitious' - Journalist now hints 'world-class' player on 'radar of Newcastle'

Newcastle United will have Kalvin Phillips on their radar this summer with his future at Leeds United under serious doubt. 

This is according to the football journalist Pete O’Rourke, who has been speaking to This Is Futbol on the future of the 26-year-old midfielder.

The Yorkshire club managed to ensure their Premier League safety but Phillips still only has two years remaining on his current deal, so anything can happen with the summer window upon us.

Reports have suggested Manchester United are one of the clubs believed to be monitoring Phillips’ situation this summer.

West Ham United and Aston Villa have also been linked with the Yorkshireman in the past few months and O’Rourke feels the Toon will also have an eye on his availability:

“I think he’s going to be somebody that’s on the radar of Newcastle United, who again, will be looking to spend money in this summer transfer window like they did in January,” said O’Rourke.

“Kalvin Phillips is somebody who could improve that Newcastle midfield. Newcastle obviously have got very ambitious owners as well right now.”

We think this would be a sensational move for the Toon to make if they were able to get it over the line in the summer as they look to continue their development under PIF.

Phillips, who has been described as ‘world-class’ by Paul Robinson, has established himself as an England regular and has impressed massively at Leeds despite his injury issues this season with the second-most tackles per game for the Whites.

And with Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes providing the attacking threat from Eddie Howe’s midfield, we feel Phillips could provide the defensive assurance to balance out the midfield three.
