VAR issue reason why Celtic DIDN'T get penalty for handball as Scott Brown goes up against 7 doubting pundits

Celtic didn't get a penalty after the ball hit Ben Davies' arm in the Rangers box at Hampden - because it was a 'natural movement' from the defender.

However that reveal didn't stop the pundits debating it, with Scott Brown going against the grain to argue it SHOULD have been given. The Scottish Cup Final was goalless at half-time after a cagey first half in which both keepers were quiet. In arguably the biggest incident of a tense first 45, Greg Taylor's cross was met by a diving Kyogo, and his header came up to strike Davies on the arm.

It sparked roars for a penalty from the East End at the National Stadium and with VAR in play, there were hopes of a Celtic persuasion that it would have been given. But whistler Nick Walsh wasn't having it and John Beaton in the VAR room didn't see fit to call him over to the monitor.

On BBC's coverage, host Jonathan Sutherland revealed exactly why it wasn't given as he said: "That is the VAR guidance we have had as well, that is a natural movement, hence why no penalty was given." On Premier Sports, co-commentator Michael Stewart agreed as he said: “I didn’t see anything to suggest that it should have been a penalty in the first instance. It’s the sort of thing you have seen given, but for me, what else is he going to do?”

Alan Hutton echoed: “His arm is in a natural position. Totally," before Stewart added: “Players are moving out the way in front of him and it comes to him. His arm is in a natural position.”
