Van overturns on busy A40 trapping person inside - updates

A van has overturned on a busy main road trapping a person inside. Onlookers at the A40 in Raglan have told WalesOnline that a car has collided with a van at one of the junctions referred to only last week as the most dangerous junctions in Wales.

One person close by said it appears the car had turned right out of Monmouth Road onto the A40 to head east when they collided with a van travelling in the opposite direction towards Raglan and Abergavenny. The incident has closed the westbound service from Monmouth Road to Raglan roundabout on the day of the Abergavenny Food Festival where thousands of visitors are expected.

The fire service confirmed at 11am on Saturday morning that the incident remains ongoing as crews from Malpas, Usk and Monmouth attempt to get the person out of the van which remains on its side. There are two fire engines at the scene as well as a rescue tender. The welfare of those involved is currently unknown.
