Van Gerwen squeezes into European Championship second round
Michael Van Gerwen faced two match darts before reaching the second round of the European Championship in Dortmund.
The four-times champion trailed 5-4 to Latvia's Madars Razma but hit back to level before a 12-dart leg to break secured a 6-5 win.
Defending champion Ross Smith was beaten 6-3 by German man-of-the-moment Ricardo Pietreczko, who won his maiden PDC title at the German Darts Championship last week.
There were also wins for Gian Van Veen, Krzysztof Ratajski, Daryl Gurney, Jose De Sousa, James Wade and Luke Humphries.
