Vaclav Cerny must be hammered by Rangers as water squirting could have sparked derby riot - Hotline

For It’s a Grand Old Team to Spray For… well, maybe not. Watergate at Celtic Park on Sunday has led to a flood of calls on the Hotline.

Rangers squirter Vaclav Cerny could be in hot water for soaking Celts but Gers fans have hit back and branded their rivals bottle merchant.

Charles Buchanan emailed: “Ally McCoist thought it was funny skooshing water at Celtic supporters. I wonder if it was the other way around, would he think the same.

"If a supporter did that to the Rangers bench he would have been arrested and charged. The guy could have caused a riot. I hope Rangers take steps to hammer him as well.”

David Brennan, via email, said: "As mildly amusing as Cerny’s water sports was it could have caused all sorts of crowd problems with tensions running high.

“The powers that be are constantly berating fans for throwing missiles, they should come down hard on him to stop this idiocy.”

Some folk found the funny side.

Scott McAdam, Glasgow, said: “I wonder how many will be at Ibrox for the home games after the split because in three weeks time the Europe Pub League will be over so it's hibernation time again as we lift another Treble.

“Rangers will have nothing to spray for…”

Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “When Celtic players play at Ibrox in a few months, the Hoops players should spray champagne over the Rangers fans as we’ll be on a World record ninth Treble.”

Dr Robert S Pender, via email, said: “Come on, it is time to grow up. The squirting of water was not malicious but a spur of the moment rush of joy.

“It was silly and I am sure players will learn from this silly act. To bring the Police in is only flaming the fire.”

Steven Brown, Fife, said: “The Celtic fans who are complaining need to give their heads a wobble.
