US Open: Jessica Pegula wants to "protect" young players from exploitative coaches
US Open hopeful Jessica Pegula has discussed how the WTA Players’ Council is working to ensure the safety of players.
The American star booked a place in the US Open quarter-finals by defeating Petra Kvitová 6-3, 6-2.
In her post-match press conference, she was asked about the Players’ Council’s focus on exploitative and manipulative coaches.
This issue has been thrown into the spotlight after French tennis player Fiona Ferro accused her former coach Pierre Bouteyre of rape and sexual assault.
Players’ Council member Victoria Azarenka subsequently claimed the exploitation of female players happens “right and left” in professional tennis.
