Urgent warning issued over kids' chocolate favourite just ahead of Easter

Some Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs are being recalled just weeks before Easter over fears they could be linked to Salmonella. Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, authorities have advised.

An update from the Food Standards Agency said only Belgian-made 20g eggs had been affected. The recalled eggs also only have best before dates from July 11 to October 7.

Customers are being told not to eat the eggs if they have been impacted — and should instead contact Ferrero for a full refund. The toys inside the egg are not affected, the FSA added.

Its notice, posted on Saturday (April 2), said: “We are voluntarily recalling selected batches of Kinder Surprise as a precautionary step, since we have become aware of a possible link to a number of reported cases of salmonella. The best before date can be found on the side of the 20g and the bottom of the 20g x 3 pack.

“If you have bought one of the selected batches of Kinder Surprise as detailed above, do not eat it. Instead, check if you have bought the affected best before date of the Kinder Surprise. You can do this by taking a picture of this notice or writing down the best before dates for reference at home.”

Customers can contact the Ferrero consumer careline on consumers.uk@ferrero.com or 0330 053 8943 UK or +44 (0)330 053 8943 Ireland to obtain a full refund.
