University of Manchester-based centre celebrates 25 years of supporting entrepreneurs

The Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) is celebrating a major milestone this year as it marks its 25th anniversary.

Situated at the heart of The University of Manchester, the centre has become a cornerstone of student enterprise and innovation, growing into a pivotal force behind Manchester’s entrepreneurial spirit, nurturing creativity and ambition among students.

From technology start-ups to creative projects and social enterprises, the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre champions University of Manchester-born innovations.

By integrating academic expertise with practical enterprise support, the centre connects students with experienced business mentors, investors, and legal advisers. It empowers students through enterprise courses, one-on-one guidance, funding opportunities, workshops, and competitions, transforming their ideas into tangible ventures.

With a rich legacy of successful Manchester-made ventures, the MEC continues to help fuel the city’s vibrant business landscape and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.

For supporters of start-ups across Greater Manchester and the UK - including angel investors, mentors, and innovation advocates - the centre offers early access to high-potential start-ups with real-world impact.

As part of its 25th anniversary celebrations, the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre is raising awareness about its mission and achievements and opening its doors to start-up enthusiasts.

Taking place on Wednesday, June 18, the MEC's The Future of Entrepreneurship event is part of this year’s four-day Festival of Business led by the Alliance Manchester Business School at the University of Manchester.

The event will start with an inspiring presentation by Dr Vivek Koncherry, CEO of Graphene
