Manchester United have beaten Brighton 7-6 on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final following a 0-0 draw after extra-time at Wembley after Solly March blazed over from 12 yards.

Victor Lindelof converted the decisive spot-kick to put United into the final on Saturday, 3 June against rivals Manchester City.

Following a cautious opening half hour, the game remained goalless.

Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister tested David De Gea with an early free-kick, while Bruno Fernandes later stung the palms of Robert Sanchez at the other end.

Fernandes, Rashford and Seagulls winger Solly March each required on-field treatment on injuries, disrupting the flow of the tie.

Fernandes drilled across goal and wide as Manchester United ended a goalless opening period in the ascendancy.

A defensive mistake from Brighton then gave Anthony Martial a sight of goal but he chipped well over Sanchez's crossbar from distance, before the Seagulls keeper kept out Christian Eriksen’s low effort with a leg.

United were the dominant side in the second period but the cagey tie was still awaiting a breakthrough going into the final 15 minutes.

Despite prolonged spells of possession, Teg Hag's men created little.

United keeper De Gea saved well from Enciso, while former United forward Danny Welbeck headed over when well placed.

With neither side able to break the deadlock in 90 minutes, the match went to extra-time.

Rashford was denied a winner when his deflected effort was superbly pushed away by Sanchez at the end of the first half of extra-time.

The England forward later lashed wide, while Kaoru Mitoma threatened to snatch victory for Brighton before the game went to a penalty shoot-out.
