United Rugby Championship: Stormers back-row Evan Roos wins another award

Stormers number eight Evan Roos has secured a quadruple of 2021/22 United Rugby Championship awards with his latest being the Players’ Player of the Season.

The 22-year-old has already won the Fans’ Player of the Season and Next-Gen Player of the Season prizes while also being named in the United Rugby Championship Dream Team.

The latest award is the last one to be announced and caps an excellent effort from the Stormers, who also had speedster Leolin Zas winning the Top Try Scorer gong while five of the Cape-based side’s players – Roos, Zas, Damian Willemse, Seabelo Senatla and Warrick Gelant – were named in the Dream Team.

The poll for the Players’ Player of the Season prize was held at the end of the regular season, with the club captains and vice-captains doing the voting and Roos eventually gained the most votes.

“It is the ultimate honour to be recognised by your fellow players and I am humbled by this award. The United Rugby Championship is such a high standard of rugby and there are so many talented players involved, so this award is huge for me,” said Roos. “Thanks to every single person who has helped me along the way this season, this award is for all of them too.”
