"Understand...": Newcastle journo reacts as massive Eddie Howe news emerges before Villa

Newcastle United have received a major boost ahead of their game with Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa this afternoon. January recruit Kieran Trippier is set to start despite an injury scare after the win at Everton midweek.

He has played all 90 minutes in the three Premier League games since his arrival, proving himself to be a key figure to the Magpies. He also scored a delightful free-kick against Everton to help Newcastle on their way to a crucial win.

Eddie Howe was set to make a late call on Trippier’s fitness, with the news coming out today he is fit to be involved suggests it really was a late decision.

Newcastle journalist Jordan Cronin reacted to the development, saying it was ‘great news‘ and with his importance to the side, it’s no surprise he thinks like that as you’d imagine plenty of the fans will do.

Understand Kieran Trippier is fit to face Aston Villa today. Eddie Howe said a "late call" would be made on the right-back after his "slight calf injury" picked up against Everton.

The right-back’s average rating on WhoScored.com shows he is enjoying a real purple patch at the moment and his availability will be a real boost for the Magpies. In all competitions he’s averaged in the 6s for their match ratings, but in the Premier League, he’s way in the sevens with his average being 7.88.

It may only have been three games, but it shows how he has slotted into the team immediately and hit the ground running as a key player for Howe.
