UK tourist dies trying to save two kids struggling in sea in Spain

A 52 year old British tourist has tragically died after attempting to rescue two youngsters struggling in the sea at a beach in Spain.

He joined others, including a 46 year old man from Poland, in rushing into the choppy waters of Costa Blanca to aid the children, aged six and seven. Tragically, both men lost their lives despite successfully saving the youngsters.

Two others also suffered breathing difficulties due to the incident and were taken to hospital. They are thought to be a woman, 20, and a man, 22, reports the Mirror.

This heartbreaking incident unfolded at La Roqueta beach in Guardamar de Segura, south of Alicante, amidst winds nearing 40mph. A source from the Civil Guard confirmed the Brit's death as having taken place around midday on Friday.

The Civil Guard said: "Two people lost their lives. One was British and the other Polish. They were both trying to help two young children who were in difficulties in the sea. The sea conditions were pretty bad."

This sentiment was echoed by Jose Luis Saez, mayor of Guardamar del Segura, who warned of prevailing "strong dragging currents".

In reaction to the double tragedy, Mayor Saez said: "Three deaths from drowning in the last 24 hours at Guardamar's beaches. The sea conditions are very dangerous right now, with strong dragging currents making bathing unadvisable."

He added: "Maximum precaution is needed as the weekend weather is going to be unstable."

Two men have tragically drowned at a beach in Guardamar del Segura, just one day after a 68 year old Israeli man also lost his life in the same waters. Following these incidents, the mayor has called for a full council
