UFC fighter breaks down after brutal knockout win

UFC light heavyweight Khalil Rountree Jr gave one of the most emotional post-fight speeches in UFC history after his win on Saturday night.

Khalil Rountree Jr has, for a long time, been one of the most inconsistent fighters to bless the UFC’s 205-pound division. He’s gone from contender to pretender and back again on multiple occasions but over the weekend, he had what could well be the defining moment of his mixed martial arts career thus far.

After a strong first round, Rountree Jr came out and dismantled Karl Roberson in the second to earn a vicious TKO win. The 32-year-old moved to 10-5 (1) but as is so often the case in MMA, that record doesn’t come anywhere close to telling the full story about this man.

When he was interviewed by UFC commentator Paul Felder just moments after the victory was made official, Khalil was visibly emotional as he delivered one of the most moving post-fight moments in recent memory.

“This month marks 12 years that I’ve been fighting MMA. Man, I don’t wanna wait until I’m a champion to be able to tell my story and where I come from. Being a 300-pound kid on the brink of suicide, burdened by depression, not knowing what to do with my life, not knowing where to go. I just wanna be able to share that and really inspire people, the millions of people out there, who feel just like I do. That don’t have a dream, don’t know what they’re doing, that just need something. I want to be able to share my story with these people, because maybe there are some lives that I could change.”
