UFC 275: Joanna Jedrzejczyk suffered one of worst facial injuries ever in first Weili Zhang fight

Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Weili Zhang will be fighting each other in Singapore this weekend at UFC 275.

There will be no belts on the line as Zhang lost her straw-weight belt against Rose Namajunas last year.

After suffering a first round KO against Namajunas at UFC 261 she put in a much better display in taking Namajunas all five rounds in the re-match and only lost on a split decision. This leaves her with an MMA record of 21-3.

Jedrzejczyk on the other hand hasn’t fought since her epic battle with Zhang back in March 2020, before the pandemic.

That loss at UFC 248 left her with a 16-4 record and meant she had only won two of her last six fights. This, after having begun her MMA career with an unblemished 14-0 start. The rematch in Singapore is only over three rounds rather than the usual five, but that should just mean the intensity levels go up a notch or two.

The crowds will be hoping for a repeat of their 2020 fight which really was a bout for the ages. As these pictures show, the two fighters are almost unrecognisable post fight. It was savage and left both athletes with severe swelling and bruising on their faces.

Jedrzejczyk in particularly was left in a terrible state, with a huge hematoma, but thankfully there were no lasting effects for either fighter.Zhang has fought twice since that epic bout, but Jedrzejczyk will get back into the Octagon having not fought for over two years.

She has spent the time training, but also pursuing other interests. Jedrzejczyk will return refreshed and ready for the next stage of her career.

She has signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC and sees the fight against Zhang as the start of a push back into title contention.
