Manchester United's season is still alive after their dramatic 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final win over Liverpool on Sunday. With the international break now upon us, the victory was perfect timing.
In fact, the victory may well have changed the mood around Old Trafford for the rest of the campaign and beyond, with several reputations burnished as a result of the game.
Some of the standout players from the Liverpool game are obviously 'winners', it goes without saying. Many of them enhanced their standing with a big performance on the big stage. Kobbie Mainoo showed everyone that the hype around him is justified, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay popped up with big goals, while Harry Maguire's cameo from the bench was impactful to say the least..
Who else, though, will return from the international break in good spirits? Here, MEN Sport picks out the many winners – and one or two losers – from a day that could come to define United's season:
You simply cannot understate how big the Liverpool win was for Ten Hag. A loss could have been terminal for his United tenure, amid a trophyless season with the club left to scrap for fifth place and the possibility of Champions League qualification through the backdoor.
But the United manager got his tactics right, as United put on a display that showed all the hallmarks of a Ten Hag team. They played fast, exciting football on the transition and outplayed Liverpool at their own game, pressing high and committing numbers in attack.
It was far from perfect; it wasn't an Ajax possession-based performance – but it was what Ten Hag has wanted to see from United for some time. He will take great confidence from the Liverpool game and lifting the FA Cup this season could yet keep him in a
