Two hours with Pep Guardiola that signalled Joe Hart's Man City departure

Over the course of eight seasons, Manchester City relied on Joe Hart between the sticks. After regular game time at the start of his City career, the club called upon Hart as their consistent number one from 2010 onwards.

The former England keeper produced a performance to remember on the season’s first weekend, pulling off a string of quality saves at White Hart Lane in August of 2010. Fast forward six years, and the arrival of Pep Guardiola at the City helm spelled the end of the road for Joe Hart.

So what went wrong at City for the now 35-year-old goalkeeper?

Life in Manchester started well for Hart, who now plays his football north of the border with Celtic. Under Sven Goran Eriksson, he became City's first-choice goalkeeper, yet lost his place to new arrival Shay Given in 2009.

Hart was loaned out to Birmingham City the following season, where he picked up the club’s player of the year award and made the PFA Team of the Year. The shot-stopper was then recalled to his parent club, regaining his spot in the starting 11.

Throughout his return season, Hart was instrumental in ensuring a top-four finish for City. The keeper also made crucial saves in both the FA Cup semi-final and final, helping the club to their first trophy in 35 years.

As Manchester City began their long streak of consecutive Champions League appearances, Joe Hart demonstrated his quality to the rest of Europe.

Most notably, the then-England number one pulled off countless saves against Borussia Dortmund in 2012, Bayern Munich in 2014 and Barcelona in 2015. In that Barcelona game, Hart made 10 saves, a record for English keepers in the competition.
