Two guns found in garden after 'vehicle bricked'

Two guns have been taken off the streets of Greater Manchester after a car was chased by cops before being abandoned. Officers were called out to Failsworth shortly after midnight this morning (August 11) following reports of a vehicle being 'bricked' on Ashton Road East.

On arrival, police spotted a car which they began to pursue. It was eventually found abandoned in a nearby street with the engine still running.

Officers searched the area before discovering a firearm with ammunition, inside a bag, dumped in a garden. At around 9.30am, a member of the public contacted Greater Manchester Police after discovering another firearm while walking their dog in a Failsworth field.

Firearms officers attended the scene and secured the weapon. It is believed that the two firearms had been thrown from the car.

Two men, aged 19 and 21, have since been arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms and dangerous driving. They remain in custody for questioning this evening.

Inspector Nicholas Helme, from GMP's Oldham Challenger team, said: "This was a fantastic result and I am pleased that we have recovered two firearms from the streets. Our officers quickly and efficiently pursued the vehicle and these subsequent arrests just hours later demonstrate their hard work in ensuring a positive result in this incident.
