Twitter reacts after Proteas thrashed by New Zealand

It was a thrashing of epic proportions as the Proteas lost the first Test to New Zealand by an innings and 276 runs in Christchurch on Saturday.

After they were bowled out for 95 in their first innings and then saw the Black Caps post 482, Dean Elgar's charges didn't fare much better in their second innings as they succumbed for 111.

Following the loss, Twitter went into overdrive.

READ what people on social media have to say about the Proteas' woes:

Poor selections. No game plan. Very poor execution. Proteas were a sorry sight for sore eyes. Enough said

The proteas batting and fielding display was nothing short of embarrassing. Let’s hope they regroup by next game #NZvSA

Proteas WILL RISE AGAIN. You are better than this test. Put it behind you. It’s (sad) history. Get back onto the field with the knowledge that your country and it’s 60 million are still behind you and believe in you. Go turn the tables! Do it!

The fight the Proteas showed in the Indian series was nowhere to be seen in the first test. Outplayed in every facet and in every session. An embarrassing defeat. Credit to New Zealand for their performance. #NZvSA

The game was gone but the lack of fight is just such a low and so disappointing specially from Hamza, Erwee, Stuurman & Verreynne wanting a spot but showed nothing, they just dont look international players. Van der dussen and Markram need a performance soon #NZvsSA #Proteas

Proteas only lost by an innings and 274 runs. Oooooh So close boys, so close. Next time

There are so many former Proteas in coaching setups across the world yet we can't seem to find a decent batting coach for the national team. #Proteas

Congratulations well done Black Caps on an emphatic test win against the Proteas pic.twitter.com/Qqle0oRtlu
