Twins DFA ex-Jays RHP Sanchez

Aaron Sanchez's time with the Minnesota Twins is over as the team designated the former Toronto Blue Jays righty for assignment on Friday.

Another righty, Louie Varland, was recalled from the Triple-A St. Paul Saints in a corresponding move.

Sanchez, 30, was signed by the Twins in June after his release from the Washington Nationals. He made seven appearances for the team, including three starts, going 0-1 with an earned run average of 4.00 and 1.296 WHIP over 27.0 innings pitched.

He previously made seven appearances for the Nats earlier this season.

The Barstow, CA native was in his eighth season in the majors. Originally taken in the first round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft, Sanchez was an All-Star and finished seventh in American League Cy Young voting in 2016, his first full season as a starter, when he went 15-2 with a league-leading 3.00 ERA.

Sanchez spent last season with the San Francisco Giants and has also appeared for the Houston Astros.
