Tuchel pleased with ‘good Chelsea mentality’ in bounce back win

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed he was pleased with his side’s mentality as they bounced back from a disappointing week with a thrashing of Southampton.

Braces from Mason Mount and Timo Werner and strikes from Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz eased the Blues to a convincing win on Saturday afternoon.

The win was much needed for Tuchel’s side after falling to an poor defeat to Brentford last weekend before a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, Tuchel said: “It was a very good performance and a well deserved win. It is a tough stadium to come to but we made it look easy.

“In possession we were very focused so it’s a very good performance and an excellent result.

“Straight away we looked focused and determined to turn things around. We were hungry in challenges and we were always dangerous. We created a lot of chances to decide the match very early.

“We wanted to play with the same attitude but we have a lot of matches in the legs so we managed the game after that. It is easier when you lead than when you are down but it was a good mentality.”

German forward Werner’s brace breaks a long run without a goal and whilst admitting he should have scored more, Tuchel praised his overall performance.

“He scored have scored more. He had huge chances and a lot of chances. It was his favourite position against an opponent we knew we could find spaces in behind.
