Tryon urges Proteas women to play 'our brand of cricket' against New Zealand

Proteas all-rounder Chloe Tryon believes South Africa will bounce back in their second ICC Women's T20 World Cup clash against New Zealand in Paarl on Monday.

The Proteas suffered an agonising three-run loss in last Friday's World Cup opener against Sri Lanka at Newlands.

It was a massive loss for the Proteas as the hosts now face a tricky path to the World Cup semi-finals.

Sune Luus' charges have three more Group A games to make their mark as they face the White Ferns on Monday, Australia at St George's Park on Saturday, and Bangladesh at Newlands next Tuesday.

Vice-captain Tryon acknowledged her disappointment following their opening loss but hopes the batters apply themselves more in Paarl.

"We were all quite disappointed about how we played [at] Newlands. I think from coming from a tri-series and playing so well, having two really good warm-up games and performing like that was not really good," Tryon told reporters in Paarl on Sunday.

"We wanted to win that first game, but obviously what happened has happened... it looked a little bit scrambled, but I think as a unit we spoke about taking responsibility and I felt that none of the batters coming in took responsibility.

"We always speak about building partnerships and running hard between the wickets, just taking the game as deep as we can. And I just felt like we didn't do that.

"What we can control now is how we go about our next couple of games, every game is very important."

New Zealand will be coming with a vengeance following their 97-run loss against defending champions Australia this weekend as the White Ferns collapsed to 76 all out in Paarl.
