‘True’ - Fabrizio Romano backs Spurs development as he makes ‘£34m’ claim

Fabrizio Romano has now backed a big Sergio Reguilon development coming out of Tottenham Hotspur as he shares his own update on the situation.

As reported this week, transfer news has come to light involving the Spurs ace, with La Liga giants Barcelona now eyeing a move.

Journalist Carles Domenech first dropped an exit hint on Twitter, telling Spurs supporters to ‘get ready’ as the possibility of Reguilon ‘sharing the left wing’ with Jordi Alba is real.

Sport followed on from this, with reporter Albert Roge claiming that Barcelona are indeed admirers of the 25-year-old, even mooting a potential swap deal including either Memphis Depay or Clement Lenglet.

Following on from these developments, Romano has now dropped his own update.

Indeed, the reliable transfer reporter has said that Xavi’s side do indeed want Reguilon, but added that the feeling is mutual among many top clubs.

Romano also draws attention to the €40m (£34m) buyback clause in the deal which saw the defender leave Real Madrid for Tottenham in 2020, something which could propel them to front of the queue. The journalist explained:

“Tottenham left back Sergio Reguilón is attracting lot of interest.

“Barcelona are keeping tabs on his situation, true – but there are also other top European clubs.

“Open race. #THFC  Real Madrid have a buy back clause available this summer for Reguilón, around €40m.”

Ryan Sessegnon’s injury problems are well documented, and losing Reguilon this summer could be a real problem for Tottenham.

There is a lack of depth in the left-back position without the Spaniard’s presence, and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will unquestionably need to reinvest if the 25-year-old secures a move back to his homeland or anywhere else.
