Tried and tested the way to go for Nienaber as World Cup preps take shape ahead of Wales jaunt

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber has given every indication that he'll pin their World Cup defence on the tried and tested, even though he hinted that there could be room for fresh blood.

One of the contested positions is at loose-forward where the likes of Evan Roos, Elrigh Louw, Phendulani Buthelezi, and Vincent Tshituka have asked pressing questions in the United Rugby Championship.

Louw and Roos, in particular, had impressive outings when they went up against Duane Vermeulen in the Ulster games in the United Rugby Championship.

Nienaber did not sound keen to experiment with a year and a bit left before the World Cup, saying a particular pecking order has been established.

"There has been this big hype between Elrigh and Evan, but it must be noted that there are only five loose forward spots in a World Cup squad," Nienaber said.

"If you look at the guys that we utilised a lot last year, we also have the guys that have been with us during the past two years, so we'll be forging ahead with them.

"I've got a lot of loose forwards currently who are playing well that can also be in contention for the Springbok side."

Nienaber's first obstacle will be that of Wales, a side that flattered to deceive during the Six Nations that was won by France.

Nienaber isn't fooled by the poor performance of the Welsh sides in the United Rugby Championship, with the Australian example of poor Super Rugby sides but having a competitive national team being something he remembers very well.

"I met Wayne Pivac when he was on a recce here and he made no secret of the fact that Wales haven't won a series here and it's one of their goals," Nienaber said.
