Trezeguet impressing out on loan
Trezeguet struggled for form, fitness and playing time at Aston Villa this season, resulting in him being loaned out in the winter transfer window, but Steven Gerrard might regret letting the 27-year-old leave given how well he’s performed at Istanbul Basaksehir. The Egyptian international has made five appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals with one assist.
Trezeguet grabbed an assist in Basaksehir’s 2-0 win over Gaziantep FK (February 12), scored both goals in their 2-0 win over Caykur Rizespor (February 18), scored once in the 2-1 defeat to Fatih Karagümrük (February 26) and scored once in Basaksehir’s 2-2 draw with Besiktas (March 7).
The 27-year-old amassed only 10 minutes of Premier League football at Villa this campaign but has started five of Basaksehir’s seven Super Lig games. Trezeguet will only stay in Turkey until the end of the season, so it remains to be seen where he’ll end up this summer.
Trezeguet joined the Midlands outfit on a four-year deal from Kasimpasa in 2019 and has gone on to make 64 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals with five assists. He finds himself behind Leon Bailey, Phillipe Coutinho, Bertrand Traore and Emiliano Buendia in the pecking order, so the writing appears to be on the wall.
