Transfer notebook: Burnley close to signing attackers Wout Weghorst and Mislav Orsic

Burnley are in advanced talks to sign Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst and Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Mislav Orsic.

Sean Dyche is desperate to bolster a thin squad in Burnley’s fight against relegation and has swooped for Weghorst and Orsic.

Burnley have lodged a bid with Wolfsburg for Weghorst and are believed to be discussing personal terms with the 6ft 6in striker as they look to fill the void left by Chris Wood’s £25 million departure for relegation rivals Newcastle.

Wolfsburg are battling to avoid relegation in the Bundesliga and Weghorst, who has attracted interest from Premier League clubs in the past, is understood to be interested in a move to England.

The 29-year-old has scored 59 goals in 118 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg over the past three and a half seasons and Dyche believes he can add much needed firepower to Burnley’s attack. The Lancashire club have scored just 16 goals in 18 league games this season.

The Croatia midfielder, 29, is reported to have said his goodbyes to team-mates and staff at Zagreb and is keen to push through a move to Turf Moor.

Comfortable in a central attacking midfield position or on the wing, Orsic scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham in March last year when Zagreb secured a place in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Manchester City are expected to open contract talks with Raheem Sterling before the end of the season.
