Trains STOPPED near Stockport with lines shut after person dies
Trains have been stopped near Stockport with lines shut after a person died. All services have been suspended between Stockport and Stoke-on-Trent due to an incident at Adlington, in Cheshire.
British Transport Police says it was called out to Adlington railway station at 11.40am. Police and paramedics responded to concerns for a casualty but they were tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragic incident has caused a number of lines to be shut and is affecting Northern, Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry services. Emergency services are reportedly at the scene.
A Northern spokesperson wrote on X: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Cheadle Hulme and Stoke-On-Trent all lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations will be cancelled."
An update from Inrix added: "Service suspended on CrossCountry, Northern and Avanti West Coast between Stoke-on-Trent and Stockport due to emergency services dealing with an incident at Adlington (Cheshire). Buses are running between Macclesfield and Wilmslow and between Stoke on Trent and Cheadle Hulme to help passengers with their journey."
