Trains stopped between Manchester and Liverpool following emergency incident

All rail services have been stopped between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool following an emergency incident. Emergency services are in attendance between Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton, in Merseyside, this evening (November 18).

A National Rail spokesperson said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incidentbetween Liverpool Lime Street and Huyton. Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.

"Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 75 minutes or revised." The incident means there are no Northern or TransPennine Express services running between Manchester Victoria and Liverpool.

A TransPennine Express spokesperson wrote on X: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident, trains are unable to run between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria. Trains are delayed and may be cancelled while we work to get services back on time."

National Rail says the disruption is expected until 8.30pm. Services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Oxford Road via Warrington Central are not affected.

A replacement bus will run between Victoria and Lime Street, calling at Lea Green and Newton-le-Willows stations. Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed. British Transport Police has been approached for an update.
