Train passengers who use Railcard issued 24-hour warning to take action

Rail travellers are being urged to update their Railcard app within the next 24 hours or they risk being unable to use it.

An estimated 20 million individuals who benefit from discounted travel through a Railcard have been issued a last-minute notice by Railcard, stating that failure to upgrade to the new version of the app will result in the app ceasing to work from tomorrow (May 6).

The alert stated: "If your app hasn't updated to version 2.0.0 or above already, please make sure you update to the latest version of the app before Thursday 6 June to continue using your digital Railcard. After that date, if you don't have the latest version of the app, you won't be able to display your digital Railcard."

The message also reminded users: "If you're using Railcard discounted tickets, please make sure you have access to your Railcard before you travel."

The late notice has left many passengers stunned, with one user on the Rail UK forum commenting: "Looks like the old one will stop working on 6 June. That's quite short notice for such an important app which people expect to work offline." Another voiced their concern saying: "That is short notice!"

If you have automatic updates enabled, you should already be using the latest version. If not, you'll need to head over to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store on your device and select 'update'.

Many individuals have their apps set to update automatically, eliminating the need for manual updates. You can verify if your app has updated automatically by launching the Railcard app on your mobile device.
