Tragedy as pensioner dies after being hit by a lorry in A666 horror crash

A pensioner has tragically died after being hit by a lorry on the A666 in Lancashire. Officers were called out to Bolton Road, in Darwen, following reports of a collision at 10.47am yesterday (December 9).

The incident involved a DAF HGV, which had been in a collision with a pedestrian on the road. The pedestrian, a 70-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Bolton Road was closed off for several hours following the collision, Lancs Live reports. Witnesses are being urged to come forward.

Sgt Daniel Gunn of our Road Policing Unit, said: "My thoughts at this very sad time are with the man's family and loved ones. They are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

"As part of the investigation, we are appealing for witnesses to the collision and to anyone who has dashcam footage from the area around the time it happened." Bolton Road was closed near the junctions with Church Street and Green Street, with drivers advised to use alternative routes.

The road reopened at just before 3pm. Anyone who can help police with their enquiries is asked to call Lancashire Constabulary on 101, quoting log 0367 of December 9, or email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at SCIU@lancashire.police.uk
