Tragedy as boy, 16, dies after 'farm bike' crashes in field

A 16 year-old boy has died after a 'farm bike' he was riding crashed in a field, police have revealed. A second teenager - a boy aged 17 - was a passenger, but wasn't seriously injured, said a force spokesperson as an appeal for witnesses to the tragedy was issued.

Police and emergency services were called out to the scene at 12.41am today - Saturday. Police have now said they are 'satisfied that this is no longer a criminal investigation'.

The tragedy happened in the village of Worsthorne, just outside Burnley in Lancashire.

Lancashire Police said in a statement issued on Saturday night: "We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a fatal collision in Worsthorne.

"Our officers were called to Extwistle Road at 12.41am today (30th March) following reports a Polaris Ranger Farmbike had left the carriageway and crashed in a field. No other vehicles were involved. Sadly, the driver - a 16-year-old boy from Worsthorne - did not survive his injuries. His passenger - a 17-year-old man from Burnley - was not seriously injured."

Sgt Martin Wilcock, from our Road Policing Unit, said: "This collision has resulted in a teenager losing his life and my thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time.

"Having carried out extensive work to establish the circumstances of what led to the collision, we are satisfied that this is no longer a criminal investigation and we are now carrying out enquiries on behalf of the Coroner. With that in mind, I would ask any witnesses or anyone with dashcam covering the area around that time to contact the police.

"A family is grieving and I would ask the public
