'Traffic chaos' on major route as Audi flips onto roof

A key route in Pontyclun was closed following a collision which left one car overturned. The A4222 Cowbridge Road was shut in both directions between the Ivor Arms pub and the turning for Llanharry Road.

Local resident Morgan Hughes said an Audi TT and Hyundai i20 collided at around 8pm on Tuesday. Three police vehicles, an ambulance and fire engine were on the scene before the route reopened shortly before 10pm.

"We were just settling down for the evening and we heard a few bangs and loud noises," said Ms Hughes at around 9.10pm. "We started seeing blue flashing lights out of the windows. We looked out and there was a car on its roof.

"It's the Audi that's overturned. Both cars are probably a write-off but police have said there were no serious injuries."

Ms Hughes told WalesOnline it was "traffic chaos" when the busy road was closed. "There is a backlog with the traffic but there is a diversion in place through Tyla Garw," she said shortly after 9pm.
