Jumbo-Visma and UAE Team Emirates could be tempted to switch up their tactics at the 2023 Tour de France after both teams saw attacks backfire in the opening week, according to Robbie McEwen and Adam Blythe on The Breakaway. UAE were slammed for «weak team directing» after Tadej Pogacar unravelled on Stage 5 following a flurry of attacks for bonus seconds, while Jumbo have inadvertently set up the Slovenian, rather than their man Jonas Vingegaard, to gain time on two stages.

Ad Jumbo's latest attempt to set up Vingegaard fell flat on Sunday as Pogacar profited from their searing pace on the Puy de Dome climb before leaving the Dane behind in the final kilometre to take eight seconds back in the race for the overall title.
