Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has heaped praise on Arsenal youngster William Saliba.

Saliba joined the Gunners in the summer of 2019, rejecting interest from Spurs in the process but he is yet to make his first-team debut in England, spending time on loan in each of the last three seasons. He is currently plying his trade with Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, where he has earned plaudits for his consistent displays in the heart of Jorge Sampaoli's defence.

The Frenchman's performances haven't gone unnoticed either. In fact, he earned his first call-up to Les Blues' senior squad this week, replacing Benjamin Pavard after the Bayern Munich defender tested positive for Covid-19.

Now, France's first-choice goalkeeper Lloris has taken time to praise Saliba, admitting that he has been impressed with the 21-year-old's performances this term. When asked about Saliba, Lloris told RMC Sport : "What he’s doing at a club like Marseille at 21 years of age, that’s impressive.

"He’s got this calm strength about him. We feel him ready and serene.

"He’s got the assets to go up another level in his career. If the chance presents itself, there’s nothing better for him to play his first game for France at the Velodrome."
