Tottenham 'preparing' shock £32m Aston Villa transfer bid

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly 'preparing' a shock £32 million bid for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The Daily Mail reports on a 'sense of panic' at Spurs after missing out on Adama Traore with the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger joining Barcelona on loan.

Luis Diaz also decided against a move to Tottenham with Liverpool expected to seal the signing of the Porto winger.

It is unclear what the future holds for Douglas with the Brazilian into the final 18 months of his contract at the club and speculation persisting around his future.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard revealed earlier this month that talks had not been opened with Douglas about a new deal and while it is expected the player will remain at Villa Park this month there could be movement in the summer.

The value of Douglas will plummet as his contract winds down unless he signs a new deal with AS Roma and Arsenal also said to be keen on the Brazilian.

"No, we haven't opened contract talks yet with Douglas," Gerrard said after Villa's game against Everton a week ago.

"I think in this period and in this window, it has been the case of trying to strengthen the current squad, make additions and, also, find destinations for some of our younger players in terms of loans.

"Dougie has done OK for us. We've been happy with his training level and the performances that he has given.

"We still think that there's room for him to get better and improve. You know, he had a bit of an injury when we first arrived and we still think there's another gear or two for Dougie to go into.

"He's doing us a job as a No 6 at the moment. We know that he maybe prefers to play a bit more advanced but he's helped us out an awful lot on the back of Marvelous Nakamba's injury.
