Tottenham news: Price set for Steven Bergwijn and Harry Kane on England goal-scoring record
Here is your Tottenham morning digest on Saturday, June 4.
Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly demand around £20million for Ajax target Steven Bergwijn. The 24-year-old is widely expected to leave this summer after becoming a peripheral figure under Antonio Conte.
According to Dutch publication, De Telegraff, Spurs have already rejected a bid from Ajax which they deemed to be far too low to secure Bergwijn’s services. The former PSV star is believed to be keen on leaving north London after failing to start a game since January’s 2-0 defeat at Chelsea.
However, talks between Ajax and the Lilywhites are believed to be ongoing with the Dutch champions confident that a deal can be done in the near future. Spurs would be keen to recoup as much of the £26.7million they purchased Bergwijn for two-and-half years ago; but as per ESPN would settle for around £20m.
Harry Kane wants to be England's top goalscorer of all time before leading the country in the World Cup this winter.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker has notched 49 goals in just 69 appearances for England and lies only four goals behind Wayne Rooney’s total of 53, which came from 119 matches. England have six games ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, four in the next fortnight - starting with Saturday's Nations League match in Hungary - and two more in September and Kane is hoping that he can break the record before the tournament arrives.
"I'd like to break it as soon as possible, I'd love to score as many goals as I can in the next four games [this month] before the World Cup and see where we go from there, but I'm someone who doesn't let that stuff affect me when I'm on the pitch," the Spurs forward said in his press conference ahead of Saturday's game.
