Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Gareth Bale has lashed out at claims made by a Spanish journalist that he has become a "parasite" at Real Madrid.

Bale fired Wales to a 2-1 World Cup play-off semi-final victory over Austria that leaves them in sight of their first appearance in the finals for 64 years. The ex-Spurs ace produced two stunning strikes – one in each half – before Wales had to endure anxious moments after Marcel Sabitzer’s deflected effort halved the deficit.

But Bale has now emphatically responded to questions that have been raised over his commitment in Spain. It comes as former Spurs forward Jermain Defoe has officially retired from the game, with Harry Kane leading the tributes to him.

And ex-Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson has slammed Son Heung-min for an incident during Tottenham's 3-1 win over West Ham.

Here are latest Tottenham Hotspur headlines.

Son Heung-min has been told his reaction to being hit by a stray pass by West Ham's Kurt Zouma was "pathetic".
