Tottenham given Philippe Coutinho transfer instruction after Aston Villa success

Tottenham Hotspur have been given a clear transfer instruction, after being told to sign a player similar to Aston Villa loanee, Philippe Coutinho.

Speaking to Football Insider, Noel Whelan gave Tottenham this transfer instruction regarding what they need.

He stated: “They do not have a midfielder that gets forward and runs beyond Harry Kane.

“They don’t have that player who possesses that little bit of brilliance. Someone who will get goals and assists from midfield.

“Let’s be honest, they never replaced Eriksen. They tried with [Giovani] Lo Celso but he was nowhere near the player Eriksen was. It never worked out for him.

“Nobody is going to do anything spectacular like a Coutinho. That’s the kind of player Spurs need, someone just like him.”

Coutinho enjoyed an impressive start to life at Villa, with a goal on his debut and played a hand in all three goals for his side in the 3-3 draw with Leeds United.

He arrived on a season long loan deal from Barcelona and Villa reportedly have an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season. However, the reported figure is around £33 million, which the likes of Christian Purslow and the Villa owners will likely aim to reduce if they are to bring the Brazilian in on a permanent basis.

Villa will face Spurs on the 9th of April where Coutinho will hopefully be aiming to showcase the talents that Antonio Conte and his side are lacking.
