Tottenham face increasing European competition for Middlesbrough ace
Some of the biggest names in Spain and Germany have joined the race for Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence, as per a report from the Daily Express.
The report states that the wing-back, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, is being monitored by up to 14 clubs as things stand.
Impressing in the league and the FA Cup for Steve Cooper’s side this season, Spence has grown into an integral part of Forest’s play-off push, after a difficult start to the campaign.
It became apparent during the January transfer window that Tottenham Hotspur were eager to make a move for the exciting defender, with ESPN (31/01; 14:24) revealing on Deadline Day that the Premier League outfit saw two bids rejected.
Proving to possess the defensive capabilities that are required, Spence has also made a big impact in the final third, registering three assists and scoring two goals.
The verdict
Playing with such confidence, athleticism and evident ability, it is clear to see why there is a growing race for Spence’s services.
He has been part of a resolute Forest defence all season, whilst he has made a big impact in the final third for the Reds, with his marauding runs down the right flank, and subsequent end product.
It does appear that he would suit Antonio Conte’s style of play at Tottenham, with the wing-back areas an area to address in the summer.
It will be interesting to see what specific European clubs are interested in a move for Spence, as he certainly has the potential to hit the highest oil heights.
