Tottenham: 84-game ace 'doesn't figure in Conte's plans'

Giovani Lo Celso doesn’t figure in Antonio Conte‘s plans at Tottenham moving forward, according to Pete O’Rourke.

The Argentina international is currently on loan at Villarreal having seemingly failed to make an impression on the Spurs boss prior to his January exit.

It was a stop-start time in English football for Lo Celso, who was restricted to just 84 appearances before he was loaned out in the winter window.

Lo Celso only mustered up eight goals and six assists for the Lilywhites, with his solitary goal contribution in his seven outings under Conte coming in the FA Cup against Morecambe.

Having played just 44 minutes in the Premier League in his three months playing under Conte, the attacking midfielder was part of a flurry of exits on deadline day, linking up with Unai Emery’s side for the remainder of the 2021-2022 season.

Lo Celso’s lack of goals and assists have continued in Spain, with the 25-year-old yet to register one in 15 games, although he’s still managed to establish himself as a regular, helping the Yellow Submarines reach the Champions League semi-finals and set up a last four clash with Liverpool.

Once he returns to Spurs at the end of the season, he’ll still have more than three years remaining on the long-term deal that he penned in 2019, but O’Rourke doesn’t think that Lo Celso has a future in north London.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He started off really well at Tottenham and then went off the boil, which is disappointing for Spurs fans, but he is a quality player on his day.

“I think Villarreal are seeing the best of him right now, it seems like he doesn’t figure in Conte’s plans moving forward, so if he continues to impress it’s only going to raise his price-tag.”
