Tottenham: £20m star Conte's 'most disappointing signing' at Hotspur Way

Tottenham‘s “most disappointing” signing of the transfer window was Djed Spence, according to insider Dean Jones.

Following months of speculation, the young right wing-back finally arrived from Middlesbrough back in July, although he’s made just one appearance since making the £20m switch.

Having played a huge part in Nottingham Forest’s promotion to the Premier League while on loan last term, there was huge expectations when the 21-year-old made the switch to north London, especially due to Spurs’ concerns on the right.

But Spence’s only outing in the opening month of the campaign came on his return to the City Ground when he was a late substitute, with Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order.

With games coming thick and fast due to the return of the Champions League, Spence will be hoping his chances increase in the coming weeks, but Jones has been left disappointed by the start to his Tottenham career.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’d say the most disappointing signing might be Spence because I just don’t see him figuring.

“There was a pretty big build up to his arrival, but he has only played one minute so far, and Spurs even looked into signing an additional player in his position as the clock ticked down.”

Currently, Spence appears to be third in the list of right wing-backs behind Royal and Doherty.

The former has started every Premier League game and while he has done a stellar job, Conte is likely to freshen up his squad with games coming thick and fast.

Starting with the Champions League opener against Marseille on Wednesday, Spurs have a game every three days until up to the World Cup, excluding the international break, which is a period Spence will surely be targeting.
