Toto Wolff urges for Monaco GP to remain on Formula 1 calendar

Toto Wolff has said he hopes a deal can be found to extend Monaco’s stay on the Formula 1 calendar but that the track layout does need some tweaks if they’re possible.

The seventh round of the world championship was held last weekend at the iconic Monte-Carlo circuit but once again, as ever, we saw calls from some that the track needs tweaks to try and improve the racing.

In fairness, the Grand Prix itself on Sunday was actually rather intriguing. Drama was provided by the mixed conditions and the change of the lead around the pit-stops, making it a race that still should live in the memory for the right reasons.

There was talk over the weekend, though, that discussions between F1 and Monaco were not going as well as they could in terms of renewing a contract, and it remains to be seen if an agreement can be found.

Wolff, though, believes for the good of both parties an agreement needs to be reached, before saying he’d like it if the layout could at least be tweaked a bit:

“I think there is a commercial debate to be held but both parties clearly will find a compromise because we need Monaco and Monaco needs Formula 1.

“With the track layout, maybe it is wishful thinking.

“I wouldn’t know where else we can drive other than around these roads and the tunnel is already fast but I don’t know what can be done.

“Maybe we can just get rid of the chicane at the exit of the tunnel and make it a long straight and then Tabac – I don’t know. No, Tabac would be too fast so maybe some braking there.

“This here is the track designer speaking who has no clue!”
