Toto Wolff says he will try to steer the Lewis Hamilton/George Russell dynamic

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has said that he will look to steer the dynamic between Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in a positive way as the two pair up for this season in Formula 1.

The all-British line-up at Mercedes is one of the most exciting-looking pairings on the grid and they’ll be looking to take the fight to the likes of Max Verstappen & Sergio Perez at Red Bull, Lando Norris & Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren and Charles Leclerc & Carlos Sainz at Ferrari.

Certainly, they’ll be keen to work together and push one another on with Hamilton trying to go for the title again and Russell eager to show what he can do in race-winning equipment.

It will be interesting how the dynamic plays out, then, and Wolff has said he will be looking to steer it in a positive direction, whilst also saying there will be no one and two driver this year, as there never has been in the past at Merc:

“We’ve never had a situation of one and two,” Wolff said.

“They’ve had equal opportunities and the same car.

“This year, the interesting situation we have with George, is an up-and-coming star, and undoubtedly, the best Formula 1 driver ever in the other seat.

“The dynamic is new and clearly is something we will try steer in a direction that it has the most effect on developing the car and making us overall competitive.”
