Torres targets MotoE title with Aspar return

Double MotoE Champion Jordi Torres will spearhead the Openbank Aspar Team in 2023 as he fights for title number three.

Next season sees the electric class gain World Championship status alongside a new manufacturer, in Ducati, and an extended calendar bringing a raft of unknowns to the Spaniard. A return to his previous team - having raced under the Aspar banner in Moto2 from 2011 to 2014 during which time he scored three podiums including a world championship race victory - Torres is keen to reestablish old ties as he fights for his third MotoE title in four years.

“I am very happy to come back to the Aspar Team,” Torres confirmed. “A team that gave me the opportunity to compete in Moto2 in 2011 and that trusted me to take the big leap and to be able to develop my career.

“I return to the team with a new challenge, fighting for the MotoE World Championship, and I am happy to be able to do it with the help of Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ and his structure, with whom I share values and objectives.

“It will be a transition season, with a new bike, which is closer to a competition bike, and with which we will have to work hard to improve. It is also a great motivation to have Nico Terol by my side as Sports Director. Together we have fought side by side, we know each other perfectly and I know he will work non-stop. I’m going to work hard, I’m very motivated and I can’t wait to start.”
