Topley excited for T20 return as he faces world champion England teammates in SA20

England fast bowler Reece Topley is excited to make his much-anticipated return to competitive action at the upcoming SA20.

Last year, Topley was part of England's T20 World Cup campaign but pulled out after rolling his left ankle during a fielding drill in a warm-up game against Pakistan.

It resulted in the left-armer missing out on England's successful T20 World Cup triumph led by captain Jos Buttler.

Topley is fully fit and will play his first competitive match since October at the inaugural SA20, which gets under way from next Tuesday to 11 February.

"It's a nice way to start 2023 with a new competition. I had three months on the sidelines, but rehab went well and I'm back to full health," Topley told reporters on Thursday.

"It was irritating not being able to take part in it (World Cup) as it looked like the conditions out there were fairly bowler-friendly for a World Cup, which playing in the next one in India - it probably won't be the case.

"It was definitely a huge opportunity missed for myself, but obviously, I'm really happy the guys went on to win it.

"The end goal was to leave Australia with the World Cup, which still was the case, so I was obviously pleased for everyone involved, and it's something that I've put behind me.

"I'm really looking forward to 2023, there's a lot of new challenges and competitions to play, so I'm looking forward to all of that."

Topley signed up for the Durban Super Giants as they begin their SA20 campaign against the Joburg Super Kings on Wednesday at Kingsmead.
