Top order collapse sees Proteas lose 1st ODI against Afghanistan
The Proteas have lost their opening one day international against Afghanistan in Sharjah, going down by six wickets on Tuesday.
Batting first, the Proteas stumbled to 36/7 as their top order struggled to come to terms with a slowish wicket.
Wiaan Mulder (52 off 84), along with the tail, managed to push their total out to 106, and although the Proteas bowlers started well by picking up early wickets, it was never enough to challenge the team from the subcontinent.
Bjorn Fortuin produced the best bowling figures for South Africa as he took 2/22 in 9 overs.
Scores in brief:
South Africa: 106 all out in 33.3 overs (Mulder 52, Fortuin 16, Farooqi 4/35, Ghazanfar 3/20)
Afghanistan: 107/4 in 26 overs (Naib 34*, Omarzi 25*, Fortuin 2/22)
